Rainbow Life Victoria - The Game of Manhunt

Manhunters celebrated yesterday, June 13th, their first year anniversary. Eric Anderson and Benjamin R. Thompson, the organizers of the community event, got about 60 people to show up for their anniversary game at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria.

Manhunt is a variant of hide-and-seek. After battling against most of the participants in a "Rock Paper Scissors" competition, the last person to lose becomes "it" and has to wait for 2 minutes for everyone else to run and hide within the determined boundaries.

The Manhunters spread the voice around a few days before their upcoming games using different free media advertisement: Facebook, Craigslist, their own blog, and just a viral campaign of word-of-mouth. Their Facebook group had 350 people joined in January; they have now 679 members. The game is becoming more and more popular every time in the city; Times Colonist, The Martlet and others have featured their success in their publications.

Anderson says that the game is very important for the city because it creates a sense of community. It is something great to do because everyone is welcome to join and it is free. All kinds of people come to this game, and it is a great way to meet friends. They usually go to a pub or restaurant afterwards to socialize with other players.

Rainbow Life Victoria - Stonewall: 40 Years Later

The Men's Wellness Program celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. An event which helped to crystallize the Gay and Lesbian Movement in North America. After Stonewall was screened and guests had the opportunity to share their feelings and stories afterwards. This was the first of a program looking at GLBT history around the world to our own backdoors.
After Stonewall was screened at the Victoria Events Centre. People from different organization came together to watch it and remember those who fought for their rights. Once the movie was over, people separated into groups to discuss it. Watch the two videos below to see some of the discussions.

47th Annual Oak Bay Tea Party

The Oak Bay Tea Party started in 1963 as a one-time event. It was so successful that it became an annual event. The event occurs the first Saturday and Sunday of every June at the Willows Park in Victoria. It is an event filled with music, carnival rides, junk food and an amazing view to the ocean.

Rainbow Life Victoria- Brazilian Party

The Brazilian Party was hosted on June 5, 2009. The night started with amazing latin music. Beautiful women came out dancing very sexy Brazilian music. As you can see in the picture above, they wore traditional Brazilian outfits. They gave the feeling of a real carnival.

The party was at the Victoria Events Centre. The place was at full capacity waiting for the Brazilian band to play some music and dance capoira.

During an intermission, the members of the band practiced their capoira skills in front of the crowd. These men and women seemed to be flying at some point. I really wish I had my video camera to get the entire action.

They capoira dancers were members of the band that kept playing AMAZING music during the entire night. They gave prizes to almost everyone, and I won a 6-class personal training pass with one of them.

The party ended about 1AM. The DJ took over the music part after the band ended their performance. Most of the members joined the crowd and danced until the very end of the party.

Rainbow Life Victoria- Odgen Point Break Water

The Odgen Point Break Water is located in Dallas Rd in the beautiful city of Victoria in British Columbia. It is almost 0.5 miles long and one of the most amazing places of the city. The perfect place to take your date. The Odgen Point is a deep water port. You can see beautiful sunsets from here. You get to see all the cruise ships coming to the city. Some people use it to go for a run or to go fishing. The only times when people are not allowed to be there are during windy times and at night.
